B.Sc. Nursing

The B.Sc. Nursing programme, which commenced in 2002, has been a cornerstone of Westfort College of Nursing’s journey and is now proudly stepping into its Silver Jubilee year. Over the years, the programme has evolved with a continued commitment to academic excellence, professional competence, and quality nursing education. The programme is approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council, and has been affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) since 2010. The College follows the regulations and academic guidelines prescribed by the affiliating University concerning eligibility, admission, curriculum, examinations, and the award of the degree. With dedicated faculty, comprehensive clinical exposure, modern learning facilities, and a student-centred approach, the B.Sc. Nursing programme continues to prepare competent, compassionate, and confident nursing professionals, marking a proud journey towards 25 years of excellence.

Eligibility

Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, or examinations recognized equivalent thereto by KUHS with 50% in aggregate for Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Physics, Chemistry, Biology and minimum pass mark as per respective boards for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in the qualifying examination.
Candidate who completes 17 years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission
Candidate shall be medically fit to undergo the course

Objectives

1Assess health status, identify nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate Nursing care for Patients/clients applying knowledge from nursing, medical allied sciences and alternative systems of medicines
2Demonstrate competency in providing nursing care at various levels of health such as preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative based on scientific principles and concepts of health & illness, thereby contribute to the health of individuals, families and communities.
3Participate as effective members of the health care delivery system imbibing the national health policies and programmes.
4Demonstrate different essentials skills in nursing such as communication, interpersonal relationship, leadership, critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills.
5Demonstrate skills in teaching individuals and groups brought to the care by utilizing recent trends in science, technology and education.
6Demonstrate Managerial skills in the levels of their functioning.
7Practice and preserve ethical values in their personal and professional life and disseminate the same to the fellow beings.
8Participate in research activities and utilize research findings and improve the quality of service through evidence-based practice.
9Recognize the need for continued, self-directed learning for their personal and professional development and enhance an attitude for life-long learning.
